Bringing the EyeSeeMe experience to St. Louis at no cost to families and schools.
Thanks to your generous donations the Foundation creates programs that increase childhood literacy for under-served communities.
The EyeSeeMe Foundation is a continuation of our mission to help every child see themselves in the books they read!
For 10 years, EyeseeMe has been here to provide African-American and multicultural books through Book Fairs, monthly subscriptions services, local events, and more!
We’ve seen the financial barriers many families and school face when trying to bring diverse, self-affirming books to their students.
We are dedicated to ensuring that every child and classroom, regardless of financial resources, has access to culturally affirming books!
Mission:
EyeSeeMe Foundation works to make African-American and multicultural literature accessible to every household and school in the Greater St. Louis region, regardless of financial barriers.
The Eyeseeme Foundation is the non-profit arm of the Eyeseeme African American Children's Bookstore.
Through services like the 1,000 Household Program and Sponsored Book Fairs, we bring our services to families and schools across Greater St. Louis— free of cost!
Why diverse books?
Every child deserves to find mirrors in the books they read (stories that reflect their own identities, cultures, and communities) and windows (stories that open onto experiences different from their own). Yet too often, classroom and home libraries tilt toward a mostly white, middle-class, and upper-class world, giving some children endless mirrors while others see only windows.
Research shows that good readers make personal connections to what they read; without mirror books, many African American readers and other children of color are denied the very pathways that build strong, proficient reading skills. At the same time, other children miss the chance to understand and value those who live differently. Unfortunately, the children who most need these books are often the least able to afford them. Together, we can change this—by filling every shelf in their homes and classroom with stories that reflect every child.
